QZ Early Childhood Programs

Stroller Safari (ages 18 months -3 w/ caregiver)

Bring your little wonderer to the Queens Zoo to learn about all the cool things animals do at our zoo! In this one-hour experience, participants will go on nature walks around the zoo, construct animal-related crafts, play animal-themed games, and have special animal encounters to develop science skills.

Move with the Animals: Series Dates - 11/23/2024
Do you have what it takes to hop like a bunny or slither like a snake? Join us for this session of Stroller Safari to learn about the different ways animals move in nature. In this session, participants will explore the zoo, do movement activities, and meet animals up close!

Colorful Creatures: Series Dates - 3/8/2025, 3/15/2025, 3/22/2025
A bug that looks like a leaf? An owl that looks like a tree trunk? Animals come in different colors that help them live in the wild. Join us with your little explorer to explore the different animals in the zoo that have these curious colors!

Nature's Wardrobe: Series Dates - 4/5/2025, 4/12/2025, 4/19/2025
Scaly skin, furry friends, and hard shells oh my! So many animals have different types of skins. Join us for this session of Stroller Safari to get up-close experience with animals of different coverings, exploring the zoo, and making an animal covering of your own!

*Ticket includes one caregiver and child. One caregiver is required to attend with each registered child. Additional siblings can be added on at checkout.

 
QZ Birthday Parties
Birthday parties at the Queens Zoo combine festive activities with live animal encounters and Zoo visits! Choose one of our fun age appropriate themes and make your child's birthday one to remember.

A non-refundable deposit is required to book. If you have questions, please contact the Birthday Coordinator prior to booking at qzbirthdayparties@wcs.org.

You may add up to 10 additional people to your group for an additional fee.

QZB Animal Movers and Shakers (ages 3-5 years)

Hop to it and shake your tail feathers. Your child and their friends can join our party host in a non-stop party of movement games, crafts and surprise animal encounters to discover how animals at the Zoo move. The party continues with a tour of some of our wild animal exhibits.

Discover our amazing animals at the zoo as you join us for a zoo scavenger hunt adventure. Children and parents alike get to walk around our zoo as we try to solve animal clues to find our mystery animals. In this wild party learn how we care for our amazing Zoo animals. Our expert party host will lead the group on a tour of the Zoo to discover how zookeepers encourage wild behavior in the animals under their care. Through fun games, activities, and a cool animal encounter your child and guests will practice some keeper skills as you party like the animals.

Snow days provide a wonderful time for a nap, but did you know that animals will sleep to survive? Cozy up at the Queens Zoo while we explore how animals hibernate through the winter.

Extreme Survivors - December 30, 2024
How do animals stay warm in the winter? They wear nice fur coats! Different animals will change their bodies to better suit a cold climate. From growing out a winter coat to building up blubber, animals have unique adaptations to fight the winter chill.

Winter Vacation - December 31, 2024
Do you ever want to spend your winter break on a tropical island? Birds, butterflies, and more will look for greener pastures to avoid the winter wonderland every year. Together we will investigate the methods of migration and analyze the reasons animals migrate!  

Beast Friends Forever - January 20, 2025
Did you know that different species of animals will work together to survive? Some animals have symbiotic relationships with each other. Let's discover the unique relationships between different animal species and learn more about how humans interact with animals! 

Lunar New Year: Snakes - Januray 29, 2025
Scales, forked tongues, and powerful muscles: snakes are unique and wonderfully suited for survival! Celebrate the year of the snake as we explore the sensational serpent scene. Through crafts, exhibit visits, and up-close animal encounters, we’ll learn more about this misunderstood and marvelous animal.   

Animal Performances - March 31, 2025
From the elaborate dance of a peacock spider to the stunning impersonations of a lyrebird! Through animal demonstrations, games, and activities campers will discover the variety of behaviors that help animals survive in the wild.

Calling all Neighborhood Naturalists! Join us as we embark on a fun and informative journey exploring the nature that we can find in our own backyards! Join us in this five-day camp as we learn about the natural world that is right beneath our feet by getting hands-on experiences with the wildlife that we see every day!

Wild Survivors - February 17-21, 2025
We get our food from the grocery store; we wear coats when we get cold and have nice houses to live in – but how do animals help us do these things. How do animals meet all their needs for survival? Find out during this weeklong exploration into how animals live their everyday lives. Meet some of our animals up close and learn about how they use their adaptations for survival.   

This camp is for children in K - 5th grade (child must be 4 years old by time of program). Caregivers must provide lunch and snacks

How do we navigate through the world? Through our different senses! Animals rely on their super senses of sight, hearing, smell, and more to protect themselves from predators, find prey, and more! Let’s discover the amazing world of animal senses!  

Charismatic Coats - February 16, 2025
Humans rely on stores to find coats to match their personality and lifestyle, but animals grow their own! What kind of coat works best for an arctic animal versus a desert animal? We’ll explore the diverse world of animal coats as we learn about how animals manage their body temperature!  

Prairie Promenade - March 23, 2025
Coyotes, bison, and pronghorn, oh my! Discover the diverse ecosystem of the prairie through hands-on activities, up-close encounters, and exhibit exploration.   

Under Water - April 6, 2025
Splash into fun as we explore aquatic critters and make waves for wildlife. Dive in and get ready to put your animal skills to the test as we learn about the Queens Zoo’s residents through hands-on activities, up-close encounters, and exhibit exploration. 

Discovering Decomposers - April 27, 2025
Get your hands dirty as we explore the creepy, crawly critters that live in detritus and underground! Dig through common misconceptions about invertebrates through hands-on activities, up-close encounters, and exhibit exploration. 

Hog Wild - May 18, 2025
We’ll go whole hog in this program as we learn about the similarities and differences between our Chacoan peccaries and the domestic hog. Experience the life of a keeper as we discover the husbandry responsibilities and essential skills that ensure these animals stay as happy as pigs in the mud. Join us as we participate in up-close animal encounters, exhibit exploration, and more!

This is a drop-off program for children K-5th.

Spring is in the air! Animals around the world are becoming active again and gardens are budding new flowers. Welcome in the warm weather and learn about amazing life in the garden with seasonal crafts, up-close encounters, tasty treats, and an evening of storytelling. This event will be bilingual in English and Spanish.

This program is for ages 2+ with caregiver.This will be a fully bi-lingual program. One ticket covers one caregiver and one child. One caregiver must be in attendance during the duration of the program.
