Most camps include:

Food for Thought
Have you ever wondered what animals like to eat? Learn all about it with Food for Thought at the Bronx Zoo! From bugs to fish, from fruits to mushrooms, Earth's animals eat all sorts of interesting things. Through songs, stories, games, and some very special animal guests, toddlers and caregivers will learn about what's on the menu for some of the planet's most fascinating animals!

All Around the World
Take a trip around the world with Toddler Camp! In one exciting week, toddlers and their caregivers will get to learn all about the continents of the world without ever leaving the Bronx! Each day, we will focus on a different continent, learning songs, and listening to stories from South America, Africa, and beyond- and, of course, meeting some animal guests!

What's for Lunch?
During this mouthwatering week, campers will explore what it takes to be a carnivore, herbivore, omnivore, and scavenger. Each day, campers will meet an animal that likes to eat something special. Through exhibit visits, animal guests and hands on science investigations campers will understand what it takes for that animal to get dinner on the table.

Young Naturalists
Is your 3rd to 5th grader a budding naturalist who loves being outdoors in nature? Then Wild Adventurer: Young Naturalists is their opportunity to learn about the Bronx Zoo's local and exotic wildlife through hands on investigations, inquiry, games, animal guests, exhibit visits, and field research. Campers should plan on coming dressed and ready for a full day of outdoor exploration and adventure that will leave them with a new appreciation for the natural world within the zoo!

Saving Wildlife!
Through inquiry based exhibit visits, animal guests, and fun activities, your camper will learn how the Wildlife Conservation Society is "Saving Wildlife" both here and around the globe! Campers will be introduced to how WCS Discovers animal needs, Inspires people, and Protects wild places; then get a chance to join in and lend a hand of their own to help with our conservation efforts!

Campers must be entering 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade in the fall of 2019.


Lil Zoo Vets After Camp Program (3rd-5th Grade)

Ever wonder what it would be like to be a zoo veterinarian? What do you do when a tiger has a tooth ache or an elephant has a sore foot? How do you anesthetize a fish or an aardvark? Does a walrus say "ah"? In this after-camp class, students will learn about the different aspects of zoo veterinary medicine taught by WCS veterinarian Dr. John Sykes. Classes will involve real veterinary medicine equipment and supplies. Students will gain an appreciation of what zoo veterinarians do every day and how animals at the zoo are cared for. Topics may include:

Session 1: focus on the eye; Upper GIT/Teeth; Darting
Session 2: focus on the ear; Lower GIT; Anesthesia; Bones

This class is designed for students entering 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade in the fall of 2019. Program will meet from 3-4:30pm. Class size is limited to 20 students.

Conservation Scientists
Our planet's biodiversity is in jeopardy but fear not... scientists are working hard to protect it! Through fun and exciting visits from animal guests, exhibit visits, inquiry based activities and more your camper will learn about what different WCS scientists are doing to conserve wildlife. Campers will then use what they've learned to help, including educating Bronx Zoo visitors at a special Conservation Station!

Campers must be entering 6th, 7th, or 8th grade in the fall of 2019.

Zoo Vet Academy After Camp Program (6th-8th grade)

Has your 6th-8th grader ever thought about being a veterinarian? Is so, this class is perfect. Taught by WCS zoo veterinarian Dr. John Sykes, this class will explore veterinary medicine from a "wild" perspective! Using a combination of live animals, real veterinary equipment, and custom-designed models, we will learn about how we use medicine and surgery to help keep all the animals at the zoo healthy- from the fish to the elephants! Note: these classes are different from those taught in the Little Zoo Vet classes for 3-5th graders and involve more advanced procedures!

This class is designed for students entering 6th, 7th, or 8th grade in the fall of 2019.
Program will meet from 3:00 - 4:30pm. Class size is limited to 10 students.

Working for Wildlife (grades 9-12)

Do you have a teen who is interested in working for wildlife? This summer your teen can explore a wide variety of professions including zookeeper, veterinarian, field scientist and more in this immersive two week program that includes assisting with keeper work at our Camel Barn and Children's Zoo! With hands-on keeper work, rewarding enrichment opportunities, unique career explorations, and visits from animal guests, your teen will become more familiar with the diversity of career options that exist for someone who is passionate about wildlife!

This program is for students entering 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade in the fall of 2019.
Camp is held 8am-2pm, except for the first day which is 9am-3pm to allow for camper orientation.

Dinos After Hours (all ages)

Join us for a Dino-Mite evening learning all about prehistoric pals! You and your family will meet a modern-day "dinosaur" up close, compare the bones of dinosaurs and modern animals, and have an exclusive after-hours tour of Dino Safari!

All ages are welcome, however this program is recomended for ages 5 and up. Pizza dinner is included. Tickets are per person, and children must be accompanied by an adult.

The ZOO: Wildlife Health (age 5+)

Bring your family for an immersive zoo vet experience! You will discover what it's like to care for our animals as you go backstage to meet a veterinarian and tour the Wildlife Health Center*, meet an animal guest up close, and use veterinary tools to examine, diagnose, and treat a plush patient of your own. You'll even get to take your patient home to continue their care.

For ages 5 and up. Tickets are per person and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

*In the unlikely event that an animal emergency arises, the Health Center tour will be supplemented with a guided exhibit tour.

There is wildlife all around us, even in NYC! Join the Family Nature Club for FREE monthly sessions that will connect your family to the local environment through unstructured free-play exploration and investigation.

How often do you feed a snake? Do all turtles eat plants? Bring your family and join us to explore these and other questions, as we hear from our knowledgeable education staff. Become a reptile expert yourself as you meet an animal up close and engage in reptile-themed activities. Afterwards, chat with a zookeeper at the World of Reptiles exhibit.

Bring the family to learn all about the rainforest with one of our expert educators! Find out more about these unique and important ecosystems through hands-on activities and an up-close visit from a live rainforest animal. Spooktacular Night Walks (all ages)

Get ready for a 'Spooktacular' evening as your family stays behind in the zoo while everyone else leaves! You and your family will gather in our program space for a visit from some creepy, crawly animal guests then enjoy a pizza dinner. As the sun sets we will head out on a night walk in the zoo to see what happens when the gates close and the last of the visitors leave.

Jr. Keepers (grades 3-5)

Is there a young future zookeeper in your life? This program is the perfect fit! Participants will get up close animal encounters, help with enrichment for our animal collection, and practice the skills it takes to care for wild animals.

Raptors - October 14, 2019

Give your future zookeeper an "owl" of a good time during this program focusing on raptors! Afterwards, they will visit our Birds of Prey exhibit and meet a real zookeeper.

Sea Lions - November 5, 2019

We're not "lion!" During this program focusing on sea lions they will visit our Sea Lion exhibit and meet a real zookeeper.

Bee-eaters - January 26, 2020

Give your future zookeeper a buzz-worthy experience during this program focusing on bee-eaters! Afterwards, they will visit our World of Birds exhibit and meet a real zookeeper.

Scout Programs

Girl Scout Overnight (ages 5 and up)

Calling all Girl Scouts! Something strange is happening at the Bronx Zoo! Grab your sleeping bags and detective gear as you and your troop help solve a mystery during our Girl Scout Overnight Safari! You and your troop will have the opportunity to experience the Bronx Zoo after hours, participate in live animal encounters, and explore select zoo exhibits. Wake to the sound of peacocks and get early access to select exhibits before the zoo opens to the public.

Bring your own tents & sleeping bags and either pack a picnic dinner or purchase at the café. Ice cream dessert, late-night snack, and continental breakfast will be provided. The overnight begins at 4:30 PM on Saturday and ends at 10:00 AM on Sunday. This event is for ages 5 and older. Pricing is per person and children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration closes the Monday before the event date.

Something strange is happening at the zoo! Grab your sleeping bag and detective gear as you and your family help solve a mystery during our 25th annual Family Overnight Safari! As always, you and your family will be treated to fun-filled, educational activities throughout the entire event which promise that you'll leave this extraordinary event with memories your family will treasure - including a commemorative t-shirt (included in price).
