Children and Teens
Central Park Zoo Children and Teen programs are designed to connect kids to nature. Programs feature animal encounters, exhibit visits, art activities, and more! They are also an excuse to have fun!

Little Zoo Vets (ages 8-12)

Ever wonder what it would be like to be a zoo veterinarian? What do you do when a tiger has a tooth ache or an elephant has a sore foot? How do you anesthetize a fish or an aardvark? Does a walrus say "ah"? In this afterschool class, students will learn about the different aspects of zoo veterinary medicine taught by WCS veterinarian Dr. John Sykes. Classes will involve real veterinary medicine equipment and supplies. Students will gain an appreciation of what zoo veterinarians do every day and how animals at the zoo are cared for. Topics range from physical exams and anesthesia to internal medicine. Parents are welcome to observe the classes or drop-off.

Dates: Thursdays, October 11, 18, 25, November 1, 8, 15*

*Make-up date November 15th will only be utilized if, barring unforeseen but unavoidable animal emergencies, our head veterinarian Dr. Sykes is unable to attend class. We will notify registered participants with as much notice as possible if we must use this make-up date.

Brrr! During this three day camp, campers will investigate amazing survival adaptations around the world that help keep animals warm in winter with hands on activities, animal encounters and Zoo visits.

Exploring the Wild

Take a walk on the wild side! Families discover amazing animal adaptations and survival strategies around the Zoo through fun activities and live animal encounters. Children and caregivers get up close to various animals in the Zoo, help prepare animal treats and understand how keepers care for them each day.

This program is for children ages 6-10. Tickets are per person, and children must be accompanied by an adult.

Family Breakfast with the Animals

Who wakes up the animals at the Central Park Zoo? What do they have for breakfast? Following a light breakfast and animal-themed activities, children and caregivers will find answers to these questions when we visit the exhibits and watch as animals receive their breakfast!

Mother's Day Celebration (Ages 2-10 with adult)

Celebrate Mothers' Day here at the zoo! On this day dedicated to moms, families will meet a variety of zoo animal moms and their babies. We'll make tasty morsels for some super animal moms and go on an animal moms scavenger hunt that concludes with meeting a special animal guest. We'll then make a special Mother's Day craft and enjoy a yummy treat.

This program is for children ages 2-10. Ticket includes one adult and one child.

Adult Programs (Ages 18 and up)
Explore issues of wildlife conservation with Central Park Zoo staff, experience the zoo in a unique way, and see our exhibits and animals through an expert's eye. At these programs, you'll also have an opportunity to meet and mingle with other wildlife devotees.

Breakfast with the Animals (ages 18+)

Wake up with the Central Park Zoo before it opens! Following light breakfast fare, chat with a keeper and learn about our animals, then visit an exhibit where you'll watch the keepers give them their own breakfasts.

Zoo Views Photo Series (18+)

Grab your camera and join our morning photography program to capture the perfect shot! After learning the tricks of the trade from our animal staff, you'll head out to the zoo before it opens to take exclusive photos under the guidance of our resident wildlife photographer. Animals will be enjoying seasonal enrichment with beautiful Central Park as the setting!
