QZ Early Childhood Programs

Stroller Safari (ages 18 months -3 w/ caregiver)

Bring your little wonderer to the Queens Zoo to learn about all the cool things animals do at our zoo! In this one-hour experience, participants will go on nature walks around the zoo, construct animal-related crafts, play animal-themed games, and have special animal encounters to develop science skills.

New York City might be the most populated city in North America, but humans aren’t the only ones who call it home! Coyotes, birds of prey, raccoons, and more are native New Yorkers that can be found across the boroughs. We’ll learn about the animals that live in New York and how to respect them through fun crafts, zoo exploration, and up-close animal encounters!  

South American Safari -  4/4/2026, 4/11/2026, 4/18/2026
Grab a hat, some binoculars, and a camera, it’s time for a safari! Queens Zoo is home to many spectacular South American species, including Andean bears, Chacoan peccaries, and thick-billed parrots. We’ll discover these captivating creatures as we explore the zoo, make unique crafts, and meet our educational animals up close!

Land, Sea, and Air -  5/10/2026, 5/24/2026, 5/31/2026
On the ground, in the water, and in the air: animals can be found all around the world! From webbed feet to stocky hooves to full feathers, these animals have different bodies that suit their environment. Join us as we explore the world, craft away, and have up-close experience with animals from around the world!

*Ticket includes one caregiver and child. One caregiver is required to attend with each registered child. Additional siblings can be added on at checkout.

 
QZ Birthday Parties
Celebrate your child’s birthday with a unique 2-hour party experience. Queens Zoo combines festive activities with live animal encounters and exhibit exploration! Choose one fun, age-appropriate package and make your child's birthday one to remember.

QZB Farm-tastic Fun (ages 2-3 years)

Join us for some fun on the farm! You and your guests will enjoy an exciting, toddler-appropriate 2-hour adventure. After meeting two animals in the party room, the experienced party hosts will lead everyone on a personal tour of our farm. Children and parents will have the opportunity to feed our unique and charismatic farm animals!

Do you have what it takes? Join us for a zoo scavenger hunt adventure! Your guests will test their detective skills as they solve animal clues to find mystery animals around the zoo. The party continues in the birthday room where children will decorate their own take-home binoculars and meet two animal guests.

Winds of Change - April 6-10, 2026
 As snow melts, flowers bloom, and baby animals open their eyes, spring is the season of change! Animals depend on this important season to grow, raise babies, and prepare for the rest of the year. Through this week-long camp, campers will investigate the ways that the world changes and animals change with it. Campers will explore the world of metamorphosis and pollination, and how we rely on the season of change to support our lives.

This drop-off camp is for children in grades K-5th.

Wild Winter Weather - February 16-20, 2026
Winter is a challenging season for many animals. From the extreme cold to intense winter storms, it takes a lot to survive. As the climate changes, winters can become even harsher. In this week-long camp, campers will explore the adaptations that allow animals to survive and even thrive in the bleak midwinter. Campers will also discover the ways that climate change affects winter weather and brainstorm ways to protect our planet. 

This camp is for children in K - 5th grade (child must be 4 years old by time of program). Caregivers must provide lunch and snacks

Junior Explorers (K-5th)

Put on your safari hat and bring your magnifying lenses. Each week will focus a different animal adaptation and put your animal skills to the test as we learn about the Queens Zoo’s residents through hands-on activities, up-close encounters, and exhibit exploration.

Creepy Crawly Creatures - October 25, 2025
Do spiders, worms, and bugs send a shiver down your spine? These creepy crawly creatures might seem unpleasant or scary, but they have important jobs in the wild! Invertebrates are spineless, but still the backbone of our ecosystems. In this program, we'll discover the role that creepy crawlies play in our world.

Who's Who on the Farm - November 22, 2025
What animals live on a farm, and why do farmers keep animals? You’ll meet our fascinating farm friends up close and learn about what makes them so important. This program will include feeding of our farm animals and a special visit with our domestic animal ambassadors.

Kings of the Sea - March 28, 2026
What’s the difference between a sea lion and a seal, and why are sea lions so loud? You’ll learn this and more as you explore the underwater world of our California Sea Lions. Dive in as we discover the unique adaptations that make sea lions the kings of the water.

Mountain Masters - April 25, 2026
While some may call them spectacled bears, these bears don’t need any glasses to survive! Andean bears are incredible animals who thrive in the Andes Mountains of South America. You’ll put your scientist skills to the test as you find out how these arboreal adventurers have mastered the mountains!  

A Cat of Many Names - May 16, 2026
Puma, Cougar, Mountain Lion, Panther – why does this big cat have so many names? During this program you will discover more about this elusive cat as we hunt for the answers to what makes them so unique. You’ll explore from the top of North America to the tip of South America while getting to know their native range.

This is a drop-off program for children K-5th.

Camouflage and Costumes! Camuflaje y disfraces!: October 12, 2025
Halloween is just around the corner, and people all over the world are making their costumes! People make costumes to look like someone or something else, but did you know that animals wear costumes too? Some animals will camouflage themselves to blend in with their surroundings, like a turtle hiding in their shell. Join us as we explore the ways that animals camouflage and disguise themselves in the wild! 

Warming Up for Winter! Calentando para el invierno!: November 1, 2025
Winter is just around the corner: how do animals prepare themselves for the coldest season? Get cozy while we discuss how animals hibernate, migrate, or grow coats to fight the winter chill. We’ll enjoy a seasonal craft, story time, and a unique, after-hours tour of the zoo!

Earth Day Extravaganza! Extravagancia del Día de la Tierra!: April 19, 2026
Celebrate Earth Day with an exciting evening program at the Queens Zoo! We will explore the ways we can support our planet through planting native plants, keeping our parks clean, and respecting wildlife. The program will end with an after-hours tour of our wild animals!

Wild World of Families! Mundo salvaje de las familias!: May 9, 2026
Grab a grown-up and come learn all about animal families in this special family focused edition of PJ Storytime. Have you ever wondered about the family dynamic of some of your favorite animals? From bears to sea horses, you’ll deep dive into where and how baby animals grow up and who is responsible for getting them there.

This program is for ages 2+ with caregiver.This will be a fully bi-lingual program. One ticket covers one caregiver and one child. One caregiver must be in attendance during the duration of the program.
