Summer Camp
At the Queens Zoo Summer Camp, children will explore the hidden gems of the Americas! Campers will discover wildlife and wild places through fun and exciting investigations, games, animal encounters and crafts. Join us for a week long animal adventure!

Extended care is available from 3:00-5:30 PM after all of our camp sessions! If you would like to register, please do so by adding Extended Care to your cart during camp registration.

Toddler Time Camp (2-3 year old with adult)

Session A: Animal Senses
Animals like rabbits have great hearing and snakes... well they can smell with their tongues. Join us for this week long experience. Through movement, song and nature explorations each day, you and your child will learn about how animals use their senses. Meet some of our animal friends up close too

Session B: Animal Homes
You and your child can learn how animals can find a home in the ground, up in trees, in the water and even in our homes too. Join us for this week long experience. Through movement, song and nature explorations each day, you and your child will learn about the place where animals can live. Meet some of our animal friends up close too.


This program is for one child aged 2-3 and one caregiver.

Kinderzoo (Entering Pre-K4 or K)

Session A: Sense like the Animals
Campers will discover the adaptations that help animals sense the world around them. They can explore how snakes smell with their tongues or how eagles can find food a mile way with their keen eyesight. Each day will be spent learning about different animal senses through activities, games and up-close observations.

A2 - August 10-14, 2020

Session B: Where the Wild Things Live
Campers will explore all of the places where animals can live. Some build nests in trees, some dig burrows and some just hide in the bushes. Your child will explore the zoo to look for wild animal homes and learn how we provide the best shelter for the zoo animals too. They can even build their own shelter in our nature play space. Each day they will explore through activities, play and up-close animal experiences.

B1 - June 29-July 3, 2020
B2 - August 24-28, 2020

Session C: Animal Superheroes
Each day campers will explore the amazing super powers that different animals have. Whether they are as fast as a car or can leap talk campers in a single bound, every animal can be a superhero. By the end of the week, campers will create their own imaginary super animals that demonstrate some of the adaptations that they studied. Camp includes up-close animal encounters, visits to exhibits and hands-on activities!

C2 - August 31-September 4, 2020

Week of Wildlife (Entering 1st or 2nd grade)

Session A: Zoo Academy
Your camper can join us this week to learn about animals through science, math, reading and wild explorations around the zoo. Campers can learn to measure and count out animal foods and provide them with shelter. Through games, crafts and other activities they will discover how we enrich the lives of our animals everyday. Finally by the end of the week they will graduate the academy as budding animal experts.

A1 - June 22-26, 2020
A2 - August 3-7, 2020

Session B: Animals Like Us
Campers will spend the week looking at how animals are similar or different from us. They will explore how animals eat, move and sense the world around us. Can they jump like a puma or crawl like turtle? This program will give them a chance to find out through experiments, games and up-close animal experiences.

B1 - July 6-10, 2020
B2 - August 17-21, 2020

Session C: Wild Animal Music
Animals "talk" through whistles, tweets, trumpets and orchestra of other sounds. Come and explore our wonderfully musical world of animals in the zoo. Through games, experiments and some instrument making of their own, campers can learn about animal sounds and communication. Camp includes up-close animal encounters, visits to exhibits and hands-on activities!

C1 - July 20-24, 2020
C2 - August 31-September 4, 2020

Zoo Explorer (entering 3rd-5th grade)

Session A: Animal Mysteries
Become a super sleuth and join us for an exploration of the mysterious animals that live in the Americas. Each day campers will use the scientific process to identify a new surprise animal. Through experiments, and observations of animal adaptations, habitats and habits, they will solve the mystery and identify an amazing animal. Camp includes up-close animal encounters, visits to exhibits and hands-on activities!

A1 - July 6-10, 2020
A2 - August 17-21, 2020

Session B: Animals Through Time
Animals have evolved over time. Some have survived and some have been replaced by others. Through explorations of prehistoric animals like dinosaurs and comparisons to animals like birds today, campers discover how certain adaptations have helped a species survive. From scales, to feathers or fur, and through observations and experiments of body structures and behaviors campers will learn about animals in our world. Camp includes up-close animal encounters, visits to exhibits and hands-on activities!

Session C: STEM Stewards
Our world is constantly changing and just like animals, we play an important role in ecosystem health. How can we as humans help our animal friends? This week campers will learn how we can be stewards to our local and global environments and gain a better understanding of our ambassador animals!

Junior Scientist (entering 6th-8th grade)

Conservation Scientists
Campers discover how WCS scientists, artists, and exhibit designers replicate the natural areas we protect around the globe in our zoo. During this week of camp, your child can learn how WCS studies these habitats and educates and inspires visitors about the animals that live there. Engaging activities, exhibit visits, and animal demonstrations will engage campers with a new understanding of zoo exhibit design. Campers will use what they have learned to then explore some of the natural areas around the zoo and create their own model exhibit!


Campers must be entering 6th, 7th, or 8th grade in the fall of 2020. Extended Care is available to add on during registration.

Early Childhood Programs

Stroller Safari (ages 0-5 w/ caregiver)

You and your child will have a chance to bond while singing songs, meeting live animals, sensory play and craft time! Each session will transition from the one before.  Our early childhood programs will help your child build up their skills in learning their numbers, colors, and using their sense of touch, hearing, feeling and smelling!

Toddler Time (ages 2-3 w/ caregiver)

Winter Adventure - 1/29, 2/5, 2/12, 2/26, 3/4, 3/11
You and your child can explore the zoo each week during the winter and discover how animals survive the cold weather months. Each week we will look at a different animal group and learn about them through song, movement, crafts and a visit from one of our animal friends.

Springtime at the Zoo - 3/18, 3/25, 4/1, 4/22, 5/6, 5/20
You and your child can explore the zoo each week during the spring season and discover how animals awaken from their winter rest and burst into activity. Each week we will look at different animals and learn about them through song, movement, crafts and a visit from one of our animal friends.


*Ticket include one caregiver and child. One caregiver is required to attend with each registered child. Additional siblings are not permitted in order to maintain an appropriate and comfortable setting for the participants and flow of the program.
 

 
School Break Programs

When I Grow Up (PreK4-2nd grade)

No school over Winter Break? Your camper can join us for one or multiple days of educational fun with our school break camp! Each day is a different focus, but all school break camps include time in the Zoo, up-close animal experiences, hands-on activities, and a snack!

Food Webs and Me (PreK4-2nd grade)

Explore the importance of food chains and food webs in ecosystems around the Americas. Your campes will pay particular attention to the producers - plants that form the first living link in the sytem. Through experiments they can see why being green is so important. They also will explore exhibits around the zoo and even visit the zoo kitchen to see how we prepare food for our animals.

Animals And Their Young - February 17-21, 2020
Join for a week of exploration of animals and their young. Whether they hatch from eggs or are born from their mammal moms, young animals find amazing ways to survive. Each day campers will learn about the young from worms and insects to birds and mammals. through exhibit visits, crafts and up-close animal encounters.

Wildlife Careers Series (ages 10-12)

Roll up your sleeves and get messy! Jr. Keepers will get up close to animals and see what it takes to be a keeper at the Queens Zoo.

Domestic Animal Keeper - March 1, 8, 15, 22
Join us each week for an opportunity to shadow an animal keeper in the Domestic Area of the Zoo. We will meet some staff that care for our animals, learn about animal exhibits and discover what training and education is needed to care for our amazing Education animals in the Queens Zoo.


This program is for children ages 10-12. Because we'll be working so closely with animals, proof of a negative TB test is required for animal contact.

Family Programs
Fun experiences await the whole family at the Queens Zoo. Join us for exciting learning experiences throughout the year!

Nature Club (ages 0-8 w/ caregiver)
 
Join us for FREE sessions with the Queens Zoo Nature Club every 3rd Sunday of the month! We will host monthly sessions at the Zoo and in nearby parks, connecting families back to nature through unstructured, free-play exploration..

By completing this registration form, you will be entered into the nature club database and receive access to sign up for monthly sessions. All participants MUST complete this registration form to attend any sessions.

Owl Always Love Wildlife - February 14, 2020
If your family loves learning about animals then join us for some evening fun on Valentine's Day. Learn about how how animals get along in pairs, family groups or herds. Who takes care of their young and who just let's their young fend for themselves. We'll meet some animal guests, spend some time in the zoo and end the evening with some hot cocoa and a nice story.   

Celebrating the Earth - April 24, 2020

Celebrate the Earth during this spring -time evening. Learn about how you can help our local wildlife through all sorts of activities and actions. Explore our pollinator garden and discover how important bees are for plants and other wildlife. Your family will have a honey of a time as we meet some animal guests, spend some time in the zoo and end the evening with some refreshments and a nice story.

This experience is for children ages 4 and up with an adult. Tickets are per person, and children must be accompanied by an adult.

 
Overnights

Family Overnight Adventures (ages 4 and up)
Regular Price: $140.00

Join us for a springtime adventure. After setting up your tents your family will join us for some evening activities and zoo explorations. Through activities and observations, you will learn how we care for our animals in the Zoo. Meet some of our animals, go on a night hike and end the even with some tasty snacks. In the morning after breakfast, we will explore the wild birds around the zoo and greet our zoo animals as they go out in their exhibits.

Bring your own tent, sleeping bags, and picnic dinner. Beverages, dessert, late-night snack, and breakfast will be provided. No need for alarm clocks, our vocal parrots will provide the wake-up call.

Pricing is per person and children must be accompanied by an adult.
