It's School Break? Come to Zoo camp! Join us for a fun filled week of Zoo camp full of hands-on activities, animal investigations, and animal encounters.

Each day campers will explore birds, mammals and reptiles in the Zoo. Through exhibit visits, experiments and upclose encounters, they will learn about adaptations that help animals survive seasons, especially the cold weather. ‚Äč

Zoo York State of Mind - October 11, 2021
Campers will explore the Zoo in a wild scavenger hunt to determine which Zoo animals have what it takes to live right here in New York. Is there food, water and shelter to keep them here or do they need extra help? Build a model habitat that might support your favorite local animal.

Go the Distance - Wild Migration - November 11, 2021
When an animal can't find food or shelter sometimes they just have to go somewhere else. Campers will explore how birds and other animals move great distances to find the things that they need to survive. Sometimes they could use our help too. Design some amazing ways that we can help animals migrate safely.

Inspired by Nature - January 17, 2022
Animals had them first. From parachutes to velcro, campers will discover some amazing animal adaptations and learn how inventors and engineers have taken inspiration from nature to solve some human needs.

Bridges for Wildlife (or How to help a chicken cross the road) - February 1, 2022
Animals are always on the move and sometimes that means they need cross roads. Learn how people engineer crossings to help animals go over or under roads. See real world examples and build your own model wildife crossing.

Campers will explore the unusual and wilder side of science, math and engineering at the Zoo. From making tools to use for animal observation to puzzles and games for animals to play with, campers will get creative with a variety of maker activities.

Scientist in Training (5th-8th grades)

This program series is designed for your budding scientist to grow science knowledge and skills through experiences with wildlife and animals in the Zoo. From exploring adaptations for flight to animal behaviors and care, each week participants explore Zoo exhibits, conduct experiments, and meet animals and Zoo staff.

Flights of Fancy - October 17, 2021
Birds and bats might fly, but some squirrels glide. Explore how animals move through the sky and learn more about the aerodynamics of flight.

Animal Engineers - October 24, 2021
Bees, birds and even bison have something amazing in common - they are great engineers! Discover how animals move, design, and build to provide themselves with the tools and shelters they need to survive in their ecosystem.

On the Move - November 7, 2021
Jump, hop, run or walk. Animals are adapted to move in all sorts of ways. Explore the mechanics of animal movement through experiments and upclose animal studies.

Oh Behave - November 14, 2021
Animals behave in all sorts of ways. Here in the Zoo, keepers make sure that animals have lots of exciting experiences. Discover how scientists study animal behavior and use that information so that keepers can design fun and even delicious things to enrich the experiences of our Zoo animals.

If You Build It? - November 21, 2021
Caring for our Zoo animals starts with building an amazing space for them to live. Through a study of wild animal habitats, learn how to design a Zoo habitat that provides all of the essentials that an animal needs to live well at the Zoo.

Keeping It Real - December 5, 2021
No matter how they move and behave or their amazing habitats, animals at the Zoo rely on the care and attention of our zookeeper staff. Do you have what it takes to be zookeeper? Meet one and spend some time doing what they do in the Zoo.

This program is for children in 5th - 8th grades.

Familes will join staff during an after hours tour of the Zoo. Learn about bats, owls, and other night-time wildlife, and celebrate the evening with snacks, live-animal encounters, and storytimes.   

Night-Time Mystery - November 12, 2021
Familes will join staff during a mysterious afterhours tour of Zoo. Find out who lurks around the Zoo at night and celebrate the evening with snacks, live-animal encounters, and storytimes.

This experience is for children ages 4 & older with an adult. Tickets are per person and children must be accompanied by an adult.

Join us for an exciting learning experience after hours, including games, animal interactions and a night hike.

Explore the Zoo through an exciting scavenger hunt. While participating in fun evening and early morning activities, participants can search for clues that will lead them on a great Zoo adventure. Bring your own camping gear, and sleep in tents on Zoo grounds, and enjoy some late night treats as part of this unforgettable experience.
