Scientists in Training Series
Bring science concepts to life with virtual zoo and aquarium visits, animal encounters, chats with wildlife experts, and more! This six-visit program series will engage your learners in STEM concepts through project-based learning focused on wildlife and conservation.

Tickets are per person. We require a minimum number of participants to run this program. If we do not reach the minimum number, this program may be canceled.

Conservation Detectives (Grades 3rd-5th)
Regular Price: $225.00
Member Price: $180.00
Why are species disappearing and what can we do to help? This series will explore the stories of different endangered species and the scientists who study them. We’ll meet some of the threatened and endangered animals that we have in our parks, and learn from our experts what we can do to save them.

Adventures in Community Science (Grades 6th-8th)
Regular Price: $225.00
Member Price: $180.00
Many young learners are interested in animals, plants, ecosystems, or weather. Others like to journal or take photos of nature or wildlife. They are all well on their way to becoming community scientists! Join us to learn more about the ways that young people everywhere can contribute to the scientific understanding of our natural world. We will try out some community science projects of our own at our exhibits and in your neighborhoods!

Not All Scientists Wear Lab Coats
Conservation issues remain a critical emphasis in the STEM field. Facing issues such as illegal wildlife trafficking, the climate crisis, plastics pollution, and zoonotic disease spread, WCS professionals are leading the way in innovative and exciting ways to identify solutions. Join us for our newest interactive series exploring STEM careers. In each session, you'll learn about a different conservation issue, meet a WCS staff member actively working on solutions, and discover how their unique pathway to a STEM career was influenced by their identity.

Reptile Awareness Day
Regular Price: $15.00
Member Price: $12.00
According to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), over 20% of reptile species are nearing extinction. This is why first-generation Bronx born and raised Kelvin Alvarez, Wild Animal Keeper at the WCS Bronx Zoo, is collaborating on research to conserve them. You’ll hear about his journey of realizing a dream career working with reptiles and how he is manipulating the sex of Cuban crocodile hatchlings to aid wild populations. Join us as we celebrate Reptile Awareness Day and discuss how anyone can have a global impact on species.

World Bison Day
Regular Price: $15.00
Member Price: $12.00
The bison is one of the most significant conservation stories in WCS history, bringing the national mammal back from the brink of extinction. In celebration of World Bison Day, Cristina Mormorunni, Director of U.S. Field Conservation & Regional Director of the WCS Rocky Mountain Program, will discuss how conservation is a path to social transformation and healing. Join us as we explore conservation beyond the science and move into the culture, politics, and belief in ourselves.

World Soil Day
Regular Price: $15.00
Member Price: $12.00
For centuries, the Amazon persisted while indigenous people adapted to use soil and produced a kind of traditional agriculture. Now, after less than a hundred years of agribusiness expansion, we’ve lost 20% of the forest. WCS Brazil Country Director, Carlos Durigan joins us to celebrate World Soil Day, to discuss the need to save the home of one of the planet’s great biodiverse habitats, and his journey along this conservation story.

Session Celebrating World Soil Day: Tuesday, December 8, 2020 5:30AM - 7:00PM Available
